[NS-Heralds] Another Introduction

Well, heck, I'll just put on the coffeepot, and make more soup...
It suddenly struck me that it's been long enough, and we are far flung
enough, that introductions for us all might be in order. (Perhaps it's
meeting people at Heraldic and Scribal who have formerly been nothing but
names attached to email that reminds me of this.)
So while the coffee perks and the soup bubbles, here goes...
As Rhiannon I originally joined Schattentor when it was very newly forming
(incipient, and just barely past proto-incipient) back in 1989, only to
immediately move to Wyrmgheist in Baton Rouge Louisiana in what was then the
west side of Meridies. I was there for two years and got my feet wet in the
SCA down south so to speak, as well as submitting and getting turned down
for my first version of my name and device. I made some changes including
changing the first part of the name to Rhiannon Heledd and resubmitted.
This time both passed.
In 1991 I moved back to Schattentor, having picked up a degree and a husband
along the way, and that's when I got to act as a group herald for the first
time. We were part of the Midrealm back then.
After about a year in Schattentor we moved to Vermillion, SD, for a year and
a half where we helped start Svaty Sebasta, and I was their group herald,
perhaps around 1993. And then we moved back to Schattentor again, thinking
it would be short-term... Uh, well, we're still here......
I served once, possibly twice, more as herald for Schattentor after we moved
back, in the mid-late 1990s, but in 1998 we had a son and my SCA life went
on hold for a few years -- about all I did was show up to local events and
play with kids.
Sometime in this period I decided to drop the Rhiannon and just go with
Heledd since Rhiannon is considered not-quite-the-thing by the Welsh
authenticity gurus. Plus, while there are no Rhiannons in western SD, they
seem to be common as dandelions in the rest of the known world. Certainly
in Meridies you could swing a very small cat and hit quite a number of them.
I've been plain Heledd for over five years now. (One of these days I've got
to get around to submitting an official name change....)
It's only been in the last three or four years that I've felt I could
balance volunteering with the rest of my life again, and so, once more, I
find myself the local group herald.
I feel like I knew more way back when than I do now. Maybe it's getting
more complicated, but then again they say your mind is the first to go...
--Heledd
(the dilettante, who loves A&S and does most of it badly...)
