On of our local members in interested in submitting a device or household badge, and has run up against the "I have to submit a name to go with it" rule. He has a name he's been using for years: Thorgrum Steelbender. (This being the flip of the "don't settle on a name too soon" because we've had to call him something this last 15+ years...)
Question part the first: He says Thorgrum is fairly common Viking era -- St. Gabriel's has Þorgrímr from The Landnamabok and: ÞórgrímR mn. (Fda. Thorgrim, fsv. Thorgrim, fvn. Þorgrímr) from Nordiskt runnamnslexikon. Can we use the St. Gabriel's online source as documentation? Can we use the alternate spelling? (I assume the Th is okay, since English no longer has a Þ but don't know about the u in place of the i.) Alternately, does anyone have a source with the alternate spelling?
Question part the second: Can we use the "steelbender" part in any way, shape or form? He is really (really, REALLY!) attached to it and it describes him well since he bends steel both in his mundane job and in as an armor maker in the SCA (really nice armor, too, and he helps a lot of new fighters get theirs made...). Any suggestions as to how we can make this work?
